Nutcracker Season!

December is approaching quickly and we all know what that means... Nutcracker season! Every year thousands of dancers get the opportunity to perform this well known Ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with music by the incredible Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

Whether you're performing with your local dance studio or with a famous ballet company, every dancer gets excited about this festive show and the opportunity to share the holiday spirit with an audience. In honor of the holiday season upon us, we at D2D have quite a few items in store to get you in the Nutcracker spirit. Nutcracker Fun Fact: "The Nutcracker" premiered at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg, Russia in 1892.

Isn't this tank so cute? It's a black tank top with a "screenshot" of a Nutcracker post on Instagram. All made up, of course, but that doesn't make it any less adorable. This top is sure to get you in the Nutcracker spirit and it would make a great gift for a friend! Pictured is an adult medium. Nutcracker Fun Fact: Antonietta Dell'Era was the first sugar plum fairy and is said to have received five curtain-calls on opening night.

This next top is a green tank top with a Christmas tree made out of sugar plum fairies, lights, nutcrackers, candy, ballerinas, and tons of other nutcracker themed items. Pictured here is an XXS. Nutcracker Fun Fact: Despite the fact that the sugar plum fairy was praised so highly that first night, the show as a whole was actually not received well at all. It took a lot of revamping for this show to become the hit it is today.

This tank is another plain black top with a cute nutcracker and an awesome hashtag. If this isn't #dancergoals then I don't know what is. Pictured here is an adult medium. Nutcracker Fun Fact: A main reason the show was not a success in the beginning was because a lot of roles were danced by children. It wasn't until the roles were replaced by adults that the show become popular.

These next items are our nutcracker themed luggage tags and chapsticks. The pink luggage tag is based off of the sugar plum fairy and the black tag is based off of the nutcracker himself. These luggage tags aren't just for luggage though, you can use them to brighten up your dance bag and it gives you a place to have your name on your bag so it doesn't get lost. We also have our sugar plum fairy and nutcracker chapstick to match our adorable luggage tags. Nutcracker Fun Fact: The original Ballet is only 85 minutes without applause or an intermission; however, these days, our renditions of the show tend to be closer to two hours.

So, there you have it! These are some cute items we have in store to help you get into the Nutcracker spirit. Are you or your dancer in a production of "The Nutcracker" this year? Don't forget to stop by and get all the things you need for the show, such as tights, shoes, earrings, eyelashes, bun holders, hair pins, etc! We hope to see you soon and have a blast this Nutcracker season! And don't forget that you can go see our very own San Diego Ballet perform "The Nutcracker" at the Copley Symphony Hall on December 29 at 7:00 pm and December 30 at 2:00 pm!
